Other NoteRichard Allestree was born c. 1621/2 at Uppington, Shropshire. His exact birth date is unknown. He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford on 17 February 1637 at the age of fifteen, graduating B.A. on 24 October 1640 and proceeding M.A. in 1643. A Royalist, Allestree was ejected from Christ Church in 1648. Thereafter, he became chaplain to Francis Newport. After travelling to France on business for Newport, Allestree returned to Oxford and participated in a group leading episcopalian services at Oxford at the home of Thomas Willis. In 1660, after the Restoration, he was made Canon of Christ Church and D.D. In 1663, he became chaplain to Charles II and Regius Professor of Divinity. He was Provost of Eton College from 1665. Allestree died on 28 January 1681 in London and was buried in Eton College Chapel.
