DescriptionThis is a funeral sermon for citizen-vintner Anthony Cookson, preached by Josias Shute. The London preacher opens his sermon by explaining that his chosen Psalm has three parts. His text belongs to the second of the three parts, and concerns the brevity of life. The eulogy of Cookson can be found at pp. 73-87, although it is notable that Shute does not discuss his career and profession. The full title of the sermon is as follows: 'A Sermon at St Sepulchres ye 29 of Januarie 1623. At ye funerall of yt worthie citizen-vintner Mr Anthony Cookson. By That famous divine Mr Shoote, resident at – in Lumbard streete. London.' Written in a neat hand.
