DescriptionA full transcription, written in red ink by 'Jos. Saunders' on 22 November 1738, of a sermon by Josias Howe. This particular sermon was originally delivered before King Charles I at Christ Church, Oxford. It was ordered by Charles to be printed at Oxford in 1644. Only thirty copies are supposed to have been printed, without a title page. Only the copy at the Bodleian Library (Arch. A e.18) survives, and it was printed by Henry Hall in double pica italic in red ink.

Other NoteFf. 206r-207v comprise detailed notes written by Thomas Hearne (bap. 1678, d. 1735) in 1723. Hearne describes how he bought this sermon on 14 January 1723 'out of the Study of the late Dr. Arthur Charlett', providing further information about this rare sermon. He is presumably referring to the printed copy, as this manuscript sermon was produced on 22 November 1738. The same notes appear in Bodleian Library, Arch. A e.18.
