DescriptionThe phrase "vtter ruine" is underlined in column 505 and marked with an "x" in the margin. On the very last page of the manuscript, pasted to the board, is a note that reads "In page 505 is a mistaken new-seeming contradiction." The entire passage Stonehouse is referring to reads " No man can, by his reluctancie, make voyd his first, prevenient grace, wherby he iustifies: but any man may hinder, & keepe back, his subsequent, or sanctifying grace; & so, by refusing to follow the guidance of his spirit, stop his owne progresse in the way of godlinesse, & occasion his relapse and vtter ruine."
