DescriptionA list of sermons, mostly printed, preached on fast days before the House of Commons, 1640-1649, compiled by Anthony Wood in roughly chronological order. He identifies this as the period of the "Rump Parliament," although the Rump Parliament was not formed until 1648. Most entries consist of the preacher's name and a few details to identify him, followed by the title under which the sermon was printed, the preaching date, the Bible text, and publication information. A few entries have additional information about the content and attendance of the sermon. The preachers' names are also recorded in the margin, as a first initial and surname. Comments are added in lighter ink, mostly noting sermons missing from the list. A new chronological list begins under the heading "Thanksgiving Sermons" on f. 193r (1643-1649). Several preachers appear many times, the most frequent of whom is Stephen Marhsall (1594-1655). Others appearing many times include Edmund Calamy the Elder (1600-1666), Thomas Case (1598-1682), Joseph Caryl (1602-1672), Obadiah Sedgwick (1600-1658), and Richard Vines (1600-1656).
