DescriptionThe sermon begins (fol. 27r) as follows: 'The Romans, as some Etymologists conceive, derived annus the name of the year from annulus the name of a ring, because of the likeness of the one unto the other: the course of the year running on in a round, and returning again into itself like a ring; then ending where it began, and then beginning where it ended.' This 'jewellery' analogy is further explicated by stating (fol. 27v) that '[t]his is the day in which that great Wedding betwixt Heaven and Earth was consummated'.
