DescriptionThe sermon begins as follows: "My Text is ye Kinges Motto & Gods Alarme [...]". Written in a large, clear hand, a mix of late secretary and round hand features. Chetwood uses black and brown ink. There are catchwords at the bottom of every page, marginal annotations, and some insertions and deletions. There is also some use of Greek. George R. Potter and Evelyn M. Simpson attribute this sermon to Dr. Joseph Hall (1574-1656), arguing that Chetwood mistook the abbreviation "Jos." for "Joshua". See George R. Potter and Evelyn M. Simpson, The Sermons of John Donne, Volume I (Berkeley and Los Angeles: University of California Press, 1953), p. 42.
