Other NoteSamuel Harsnett delivered a controversial sermon on Ezekiel 33:11 at Paul's Cross on 27 October 1584, which he was forced by Archbishop Whitgift to recant. This sermon was later published as an appendix to "Three sermons preached by the Reverend, and learned, Dr. Richard Stuart... To which is added a fourth sermon, preached by the Right Reverend Father in God Samuel Harsnett, Lord Arch-bishop of York" (London, 1656 and 1658). It is likely that the present sermon, preached by Harsnett on Ezekiel 33:11 at Paul's Cross, is this infamous sermon, albeit misdated. The 1634 scribe appears to have dated the sermon to the wrong year (1594), which is corrected to 1584 on an inserted slip; as such, it is possible that the entire date was incorrect. There is no record of Harsnett preaching on the same text at Paul's Cross earlier in the year, nor is there any 1651 publication containing a sermon preached by Harsnett.
