Contents NoteThe first pamphlet contains 3 sermons probably written by Isaac Walton. The second item is a single sheet fragment in the same hand. The third is an undated sermon on 1 Corinthians 13:1-2, which may also be by Walton but written roughly unlike the neat preceding sermons. The 4th pamphlet is a sermon on Romans 8:26, delivered at Almondbury, Yorkshire on 5 June 1767, Whitsunday, written in an extremely large, clear hand. The next is a sermon on Philippians 1:27, titled "No 17, May 8th 1795 - 1st written this month". On the cover is written "This sermon was written in 1791 and revised and written again in a different way in 1795". Pamphlet 6, written in the same hand, is a sermon on Psalms 37:8, 6 ff. with a note by the compiler saying, "this sermon has been written in a different manner". Pamphlet 7 is a sermon on John 5:25, in a different hand, presumably an autograph copy as there are many corrections and deletions and a passage has been cut out; dated 9 August 1758, "Wednesday in the morning", 7 ff. Pamphlet 8 is a sermon on 1 Peter 3:8; at the top is written, "this sermon has been written in a different matter"; paper slip on front cover stating, "Have Compassion one of another and love as Brethren", 6 ff. Dates preached at the back; first delivered 30 May 1793 and then a list of other preachings and places, each signed "M": "Almondbury Nov. 17 1765, Briars June 2nd 1771, Marsden June 5th 1774, Harishead May 28th 1780, Sadddleworth Church June 2 1793”. Pamphlet 9 is a sermon on Luke 7:33-35, 8 ff.; note on cover states, "This sermon was written in 1782 and revised and written again in a different manner in 1798". The sermon itself is dated April 1798. Pamphlet 10 is the original version of the sermon on Luke 7:33-35, dated May 22 1782, 7 ff. Pamphlet 11 is a sermon on Matthew 18:7, 6 ff. delivered on 17 September 1785, with many alterations and a passage cut out. Pamphlet 12 is a sermon on John 13:34-5, 8 ff., delivered on May 25 1781, with a note saying it has been rewritten. Pamphlet 13 is a sermon on Colossians 3:14, 6 ff., preached on 2nd June 1758, Friday in the morning. The final pamphlet is a sermon on Revelation 14:13, 7 ff., delivered on December 4th 1788. These later sermons may were written by John Murgatroyd, or compiled by him, according to the notes in the catalogue.
