Other NoteBertram Ashburnham, Fourth Earl of Ashburnham (1797-1878) purchased the Stowe collection of manuscripts in 1841. In 1883, the collection was sold to Parliament and subsequently deposited, almost in its entirety, in the British Museum. The diary of Bertram, Fourth Earl of Ashburnham, is held at the East Sussex Record Office.
