The collection was subsequently purchased by Bertram Ashburnham, Fourth Earl of Ashburnham. His son sold the collection to Parliament; following which, it was deposited in the British Museum, with the exception of the manuscripts which were of Irish interest, which were deposited in the Library of the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin.
