ShelfmarkMS. 3545
Creation Dateca. 1644 - 1644
RepositoryNational Library of Scotland
Contents NoteThe volume contains sermons ascribed to George Wishart in an anonymous note tipped into the front of the volume. (According to the catalogue, the author of the note is Rev. W. D. Macray, Bodleian Library.) The attribution is based upon details in the sermon that appear to refer to Newcastle-upon-Tyne and to narrow the date to about 1643, when the parliamentary army besieged the town from February to October.
Material FeaturesAll of the sermons except one are written in the same hand, which is small but legible. There are a number of blank unfoliated pages before the first sermon and occasional groups of blank pages between sermons. At one of these gaps another hand has written a sermon on Luke 19:41. Ff. 32-33 are blank. The first hand has begun a sermon on Revelation 7:14 on f. 34v (a single paragraph) and the second hand has written a few lines on f. 35v. Ff. 36-39 are blank. There are a large number of blank pages at the end of the final sermon. Later binding stamped on the spine: "MSS Sermons by G. Wishart."
