GEMMS IDGEMMS-MANUSCRIPT-001756
TitleDavid Brown. Sermons by various ministers, 1658
ShelfmarkGB 247 MS Gen 395/4
Creation Date1658 - 1659
Contents Note26 sermons by various preachers. The first and second halves of the MS both contain content lists with the bible chapters/verses and page numbers. The catalogue title associates this MS to David Brown but there is no clear connection, Brown was not born until 1663 and so it is unlikely he is the author or owner of the MS. The MS is all in one hand, one of the inside pages is signed 'M J C' and a number of sermons are attributed to 'M J C' or 'Mr J Carstare' - this could be the original owner of the MS.
Material FeaturesLeather bound notebook that has substantial damage to the binding and internal paper. Large parts of the volume is torn, stained and contains holes. A number of sermons are only partially legible as a result. There are page numbers that appear to be original to the MS, the second half of the MS is in reverse (the side of the MS with the damaged cover has been taken to be the front page). 192 pages in total.
