TitleSermons of Obadiah Wills, Volume 2
ShelfmarkMS 28.18
Creation Date1699 - 1699
Contents NoteThis is part of a series of eleven small bound volumes of sermons, being vols. 2-4 and 6-13 of a series, hastily written in a uniform hand throughout. Vol. 2 has title (repeated in similar fashion in each volume) ‘Sermons on several subjects per O -------- W---------s. August 11th 1699 London. Hastily studdyed & [there]for[e] confusedly written this being only a repository for g[ene]rall heads pop[ular]: discourses etc yt they may not be lost as g[ene]rally they are when writt inloose papers.’ It is conjectured that the author was Obadiah Wills, sometime (to 1660) rector of Alton Barnes, Wiltshire, licensed as a Congregational preacher at Devizes in 1672. On p. 1, the reader is directed to see Vol. 1 for two previous sermons on this text, which he now continues. Vol. 2 has title, pp. 287, dated 11 August 1699, London.
Material FeaturesThese appear to be the preacher's detailed sermon notes on the texts listed in the table near the end of the volume. The DWL cataloguer records that this volume is missing a table, but it appears three pages before the end and was likely missed by the cataloguer for this reason.
