GEMMS IDGEMMS-MANUSCRIPT-000244
TitleSermons of John Allen
ShelfmarkMS I.h.49
Creation Dateca. 1665 - 1665
Contents NoteThe volume is entitled "Analecta Sacra; Choice Crums or A Collection of Severall Sermons: Preached at Yarmouth by Mr John: Allen: Late one of the Ministers there." There is an epistle to the reader explaining the contents and how they were compiled. In all there are three sermons. They have been transcribed from shorthand by N.C. and he hopes "I have fully complyed, with the desires of those, whoe once received from the Pulpit, what is now put into your handes." The sermons were transcribed from "loose papers" and that may account for inconsistencies in arrangement or completeness of the content. The old catalogue indicates that these were arranged and intended for publication, including commendatory verses to Allen, but were apparently never printed.
Material FeaturesThe binding is fragile, but the volume itself is written in a neat hand.
