GEMMS: Gateway to Early Modern Manuscript Sermons
GEMMS IDGEMMS-MANUSCRIPT-000255
TitleSermons or Lectures
ShelfmarkMS II.a.21
Creation Dateca. 1677 - 1681
Contents NoteThe contents of this volume comprise lectures and sermons by an unknown preacher. The materials can be dated roughly because some of the contents in the latter part of the volume are dated. These materials are almost certainly a preacher's as the items include words in Hebrew and Greek; however, they appear to have been professionally written by a scribe who has left spaces where words in these languages have been inserted.
Material FeaturesThe volume is bound in leather with blind tooling. The paper is of very good quality and the sermons are written in what appears to be the same hand. The pages have wide margins, double-ruled in red on all but the gutter margins. The volume contains blank leaves between sections, and a large number (unfoliated and unpaginated) at the end. Between pp. 126-127 is a report on two missing sermons.
