Other NoteAndrew Marvell was born at Meldreth, Cambridgeshire, c. 1584. He matriculated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in 1601, and graduated B.A. in 1605, proceeding M.A. in 1608. He was ordained priest in York Minster on 30 May the following year. Marvell became rector of Winestead, Holderness, on 23 April 1614, where his son Andrew, the future poet, was baptized in 1621. He held this post until September 1624, when he was appointed lecturer at Holy Trinity Church, Hull. In the same year, he became Master of Charterhouse Hospital. He died by drowning in the Humber on 23 January 1641.
