DescriptionWritten in a neat, predominantly secretary hand, with some use of Greek and Latin. There is an 'analysis or resolution' of Marvell's chosen verse, in the form of a Ramist diagram, on p. 10. Key sections of the sermon are marked by large roman numerals. The full title of this sermon is as follows: 'Israel and England parallel'd. or Some of there sinnes balanced.' This is a presentation copy of Marvell's sermon. It has a title page, on which is written a verse from 1 Corinthians (10:7): 'Be ye not Idolaters as were some of them'. A dedicatory epistle follows the title page, and is addressed 'To ye truly Noble, Religious, & right Vertuous Gentlewoman Mrs Anne Sadleir, health and happines.' Sadleir is described as a ‘constant benefactresse to me & to my family’. The epistle is dated 28 April 1627.
