Other NoteBorn in either Dublin or Gloucester in 28 March 1643 to Anthony Dopping of Frampton, Gloucestershire who bought an estate in county Meath in 1636. Attended St Patrick's Cathedral School before entering Trinity College, Dublin in 1655 where he graduated BA in 1660, MA, in 1662 (also elected fellow that year). Became vicar of St Andrew's parish, Dublin in 1669. Appointed bishop of Kildare in 1679; translated to Meath in 1682 which also led to his appointment to Ireland's Privy Council and vice-chancellor of Trinity College. Despite vehemently anti-Catholic sermons, he declared his loyalty to James in 1689, but switched his allegiance to William after the battle of the Boyne in 1690. Although initially welcomed into the new regime, strong criticism of the treaty of Limerick in a 26 November 1691 thanksgiving sermon led to his suspension from the privy council until 1695, and may have contributed to his being passed up on two vacant archbishoprics in 1693 and 1694. Died 25 April 1697.
