Other NoteThe son of George Rule, minister of Longformacus, he was born at Peelwalls in 1623. He graduated MA from Edinburgh in July 1644, and was admitted to Tannadice about 1651, and called to the East Church in April 1655 admitted by Protestors on 12th July 1655, despite oppositon by the town. He contined there until 1660 without securing the benefice. he was admitted to Kirkcaldry before September 1662, and then deprived of his living by Act of Parliament in 1663. He held conventicles in Fife and a decree was passed against him, he then moved to Londonderry becoming the minister of a Presbyterian Church there. He returned to Kirkcaldry in 1888 and Stirling in 1693. he married Elizabeth (d. 1736) and had issue: Robert, Elizabeth, Gilbert, Emelia, Mary and another daughter whose name is unknown.
