Other NoteWigglesworth was born in Yorkshire, and emigrated as a child with his family to America in 1638 and settled in New Haven. In 1651 he graduated from Harvard College and was a tutor and fellow there for several years. He preached in Charleston from 1653-4 and a pastor at Malden from 1656 until he died. Alongside his work as a pastor, he practiced medicine and wrote poetry. His work "The Day of Doom" (1662) which became one of the most read poems from New England. He married three times, having at least 1 daughter (Mercy, b. Feb 21 1655) with his first wife, 6 children with his second, and with his third wife had his youngest son, Edward Wigglesworth, who had at least 12 children and continued the family papers.
