Other NoteIsaac Foster's exact birthdate is unknown. He was the son of William Foster of Charlestown, the Captain of the Dolphin and Anne, daughter of William Brackenbury. William Foster was famously captured by a Barabry corsair on the coast of Spain with one of his sons in 1671 and redeemed and returned in 1673. It seems likely that Isaac was this son. He was part of the class of 1671. He was made a fellow of the college in 1678 and freeman of Massachusetts in the same year. Following Thomas Shepard's death, Foster was recommended by Increase Mather, Urian Oakes, Samuel Willard and John Sherman as his replacement, although Thomas Shepherd gained the role. In April 1678 he was asked to take up ministries at Barnstable and Windsor, CT. He declined these roles. In 1679 or 16890 he became minster of Hartford and married Mehitabel (Mabel) daughter of Samuel Wyllys and widow of Daniel Russell. They had a daughter, Ann. He died young, on 20 August 1682.
