Other NoteYoung was born in Cheapside, London and educated at Mercer's School and Pembroke College, Cambridge. He graduated B.A. in 1551, M.A. in 1555, B.D. in 1563, and D.D. in 1569; he was master of the college from 1567-78 and Vice-Chancellor from 1568-69. Young served as the rector of St. Martin's Ludgate (London) from 1563-66 and rector of St. Magnus the Martyr (London) from 1566-92. He held a prebend of St. Paul's from 1564-79 and of Southwell Minster from 1566-(?), and was made canon of Westminster in 1572. Young was consecrated as bishop of Rochester in 1578 and held the see until his death. The longevity of this position was notable: most occupants of this see were translated to a wealthier one in time, but Young remained in Rochester, refusing the bishopric of Norwich in 1594 on the grounds of its impoverishment. Young died at Bromley Palace on 10 April 1605 and was buried at the church there, survived by his wife Grace and their son John.
