John Peter was admitted to Queens' College in 1699. BA in 1702/3; MA from Jesus College in 1706; DD in 1714. Fellow at Jesus 1705-1714. Ordained deacon in 1705; priest in 1706. Vicar of Swaffhm St Cyriac and St Mary, Cambridgeshire, 1712-1753. Vicar of Fordham, 1713. Rector of Dry Drayton, 1724-1725. Rector of Castle Camps, 1725. Chaplain to King George I in 1721. Dean of Gloucester in 1729, before becoming Dean of Ely between 1730 and his death in on 11 January 1758. Married Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander Parker in 1713.
