Other NoteNotable items include a list of the books which Elizabeth Lyttelton had read aloud to her father, Sir Thomas Browne, including 'some hundreds of sermons' (see pp. 44-45). There is one short extract from Donne's sermon preached at Whitehall (4 March 1624) and notes of sermons by preachers including John Boatman and George Cock. Texts include Matthew 5:4 and 1 Peter 4:12-13, and occasions include Christmas Day. These sermons and sermon notes are written in the hand of Dorothy Browne, the mother of Elizabeth. For a detailed analysis of these sermons, see Rebecca Bullard, '"A bright Coelestiall Mind": A New Set of Writings by Lady Dorothy Browne (1621-1685)', Huntington Library Quarterly, 73.1 (2010), 99-122. According to Bullard, there is no evidence that any of the sermons noted here (apart from Donne's and extracts from John Spencer, Kaina kai palaia (1658)) were printed; see Bullard, p. 112 n. 40.
