DescriptionThis letter, dated 23 March (no year given), addressed to John Thornton 'at Bedford House', is written by William Bates (likely to be the ejected minister William Bates who died in 1699). Bates describes some sermons which he wishes Thornton to pass on to the Duke of Bedford and members of his family.

Other NoteEarly Modern Letters Online conjectures that this letter was composed in 1670. The present cataloguer suggests an alternative date of 1695, owing to the date of Bates's A Sermon Preached upon the much Lamented Death Of our Late Gracious Sovereign Queen Mary (1695), which contains a dedication to William Russell, duke of Bedford.
