Contents NoteThis manuscript contains notes taken by John Glenister, likely at Pinners' Hall judging by the lecturers he names. These notes do not attempt to reconstruct the form or structure of the sermon (they are individual comments, taken apparently at the time of hearing). Glenister does not always indicate the preacher or text for his notes. Some of the later entries are written in shorthand, but no key is given. This sermon notebook resembles a commonplace book in the sense that Glenister has written down thoughts and sayings that apparently struck him as he listened. Comments are separated by blank spaces and a lot of space is left between sentences and paragraphs for additional thoughts (or remembered content).
Material FeaturesThe original calf binding is dry and frayed. On the cover is written "John Glenister December 24 1707." The manuscript is unfoliated and unpaginated, making description of the items difficult.

Other NoteAlthough GEMMS has separate entries for preachers named by Glenister in his book, it is not always clear who is meant. For example, he takes notes on a sermon by "Mr. Hambleton"; the following week he hears "Mr. Hammilton." These may be the same person, as might "Mr. Nesby" and "Mr. Naseby" who appear frequently in the book.
