Other NoteJohn Egerton was born in June 1623, the son of John Egerton, First Earl of Bridgewater (1579-1649). In 1633, he was admitted to Gray's Inn. Following his father's death in 1649, he became the Second Earl of Bridgewater. A staunch Royalist, he was briefly imprisoned during the Interregnum. In 1663, he was awarded an M.A. by diploma from the University of Oxford. In the same year, he became high steward of the University, a position he would hold for the rest of his life. Bridgewater died at the Barbican, London, on 26 October, and was buried at Little Gaddesden, Hertfordshire.
